Navaratri Festival - from 15th October to 24th October 2023
Sri Durga Puja especially known as Navaratri in Tamil Nadu, was celebrated grandly in our Ramakrishna Math, Madurai, from 15th October 2023 to 24th October 2023.
Event Highlights
- Sri Devi Mahatmyam (Sri Chandi) Parayanam: Performed daily during all days of Navaratri in the morning.
- Devotional Singing: Bhajan and Nama Sankirtanam were sung by monastics morning and evening. A good number of devotees participated on all the days.
- Lecture on Glory of the Divine Mother (Sri Devi Mahatmyam): A series of enlightening lectures were conducted from 15th October 2023 to 19th October 2023. The lectures were delivered by Swami Kamalatmananda, Swami Vimokshananda and Swami Arkprabhananda
- Maha Saptami: Sri Lalita Sahasranama Archana with Vermillion (Kumkum) was performed on 21st October evening from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
- Maha Ashtami: A special Puja to Sri Ramakrishna with Homa was held. Lunch Prasad was distributed to the devotees. On that day, our Ashrama was visited by 1200 devotees.
- Vijaya Dasami: In the morning, ‘Akshara Abhyasam’ – a ceremony to initiate small children into formal school education was performed in the Temple. 48 Children were initiated by writing ‘OM’ and the Tamil letter - ‘A’ on rice. After the evening Arati, Shanti-Jal was sprinkled on all the devotees present and Prasad was distributed to the devotees.
- Bommai Kolu: A local custom of artistically displaying the idols of various Gods, Goddesses, people, and animals was arranged in Math’s auditorium. Our school children from the 5th class explained the stories depicted through the exhibits to the public who ever visited the Kolu Mandapam (where God and Goddess idols were arranged).
- Participation of Other School Students: Students from eight local schools in Madurai visited the Math and participated in the Navratri worship. The children from our school narrated the stories depicted through the exhibits in Kolu to them.
