Providing Education and Hope for a Brighter Future
At Ramakrishna Math Madurai, we believe that education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty. Our Free Tuition Centre aims to support and empower underprivileged boys and girls studying in government schools. These children, coming from illiterate and disadvantaged families, often struggle to understand their subjects without additional coaching.
Evening Tuition Sessions
Our tuition centre operates in the evenings, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday to Saturday. We cater to students from grades IV to XII, with nearly 180 students attending from the surrounding areas.
Nurturing the Mind, Body, and Soul
Every session begins with a prayer, where Shanti mantras and Bhajan songs are recited. Following the prayer, a nutritious cooked meal is served to the students, ensuring that their hungry stomachs are taken care of.
Dedicated Team of Volunteers
Our Free Tuition Centre is run by a team of 12 dedicated volunteers and paid staff who are committed to making a positive impact in the lives of these students. We provide intensive coaching to motivate and encourage the students to perform well academically.
Moral Classes and Support for Higher Studies
To nurture their character and values, our Swamis conduct Moral classes every Wednesday from 7:15 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Additionally, after completing their 10th and 12th standards, students who wish to pursue higher studies are provided with financial assistance.
Empowering Through Service
We believe in instilling a sense of pride and belongingness in our students. They are given opportunities to serve as volunteers in various activities of the Ashrama, such as monthly eye camps, special functions, and Sundays. This not only enables them to contribute but also fosters a sense of community.
Transforming Lives Through Education
The impact of our Free Tuition Centre has been remarkable. The education of these underprivileged children has significantly improved, with many of them passing their exams and achieving high marks. Moreover, even parents from slum areas have shown an increased interest in educating their children.
Cultivating a Love for Culture
We also value the importance of acquiring education and higher culture. Through our educational tours and excursions to significant historical places in and around Madurai, we expose our students to a broader perspective and enrich their knowledge.
Celebrating Festivals and Joyous Occasions
To bring joy and celebrate important festivals, we distribute new dresses to all students during Deepavali. Small idols of Ganesha and Krishna are given on Ganesha Chaturthi and Sri Krishna Jayanthi respectively. Additionally, small mud lamps are gifted to the students during Karthik Deepam, a local festival.
