The auspicious occasion of Phalaharini Kali Puja was celebrated with deep solemnity and spiritual fervour on Saturday, May 16, 2026. The annual observance brought together approximately 100 devotees inside the temple premises for an evening of prayer and contemplation.
The evening featured a special puja, soulful bhajans, special arati, and pushpanjali (flower offerings), creating a deeply meditative environment.
Spiritual Significance: The Shodashi Puja
As part of the program, a reading highlighted the historic event that gives this day its deep significance within the Ramakrishna tradition.
On this very tithi (astrological day) on May 25, 1873, Sri Ramakrishna performed a historic ritual at the Dakshineswar Kali Temple. He worshipped his own wife, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi, as Shodashi—the living manifestation of the Divine Mother. During that sacred night, Sri Ramakrishna invoked the Divine Mother within Sri Sarada Devi. At the end of the ceremony, he offered all the fruits of his lifelong spiritual austerities, along with his rosary, at her feet, symbolizing absolute spiritual surrender.
