On 13th December 2024, Ramakrishna Math, Madurai, celebrated Karthikai Deepam, a festival of lights observed on the full moon day of the Tamil month of Karthikai (November-December). The festival is dedicated to Lord Siva, who is believed to have appeared as a column of fire on this day.
The event began with an Arati to Arunachaleshwar, the form of Lord Siva associated with the Arunachala hill in Tiruvannamalai. At 6:00 PM, a Deepam (sacred lamp) was lit in the prayer hall, symbolizing divine light and its presence in all aspects of life.
This was followed by the singing of Namavalis (hymns) in praise of Lord Siva, which continued until 6:30 PM.
